1. What is my homepage URL?

Your URL is http://www.crosswinds.net/~membername/
(Substitute your actual Crosswinds membername for "membername".)

2. How do I log in?

In all cases, your login name is your Crosswinds membername, entered in all lowercase letters. Your password is the one you chose when you signed up, typed exactly as you chose it. The log in area is on any and all main Crosswinds pages, at the top left corner.

Note that passwords must be 8 characters or less; if yours is longer than 8 characters, enter the first 8 only.

3. I lost my password. How can I get it again?

For security reasons, we don't send passwords to you with just an email request. This is for your protection, as it would be easy for someone to send us your membername and get your password. To get your password, go to the Lost Password page and request it there. Your password will be sent to you at the alternative email address you used when you first signed up.

4. How do I use the Homepage Utilities?

If you need help using the Homepage Utilities, check out the Tutorials in the Member Support Center of the main site. They feature detailed step-by-step instructions and screen shots. You will need a browser that supports file uploads, such as version 3.0 or newer of Netscape or version 4.0 or newer of Internet Explorer to use the Homepage Utilities.

5. I need to change some of the information on my account. How can I do this?

If you want to change any of your account information, get info on your current account status, or delete your account, you need to log in to the Member Utilities.

We do NOT delete accounts via email request for security reasons.

6. I'm new to all this. Do you offer any types of on-line help for us beginners?

If you need help in using any of our on-line utilities, your Crosswinds email account, or FTP, please visit our Help Area. Also, there is a file attached to (but not IN) your account called crosswinds.html. It contains instructions for using your Crosswinds account, email, and the Homepage Utilities, as well as links to other FAQ and Help areas. To read it, type this into your browser's URL window: http://www.crosswinds.net/~membername/crosswinds.html (again, substituting your actual membername)

If you prefer Help in real time, click here to talk to a real live person! We also host an IRC channel (chat room) which you can either access with a Java applet linked off the main Crosswinds site, or with a traditional IRC client. If you use an IRC client, use the following settings to connect.

  • Server: irc.chatcircuit.com
  • Channel: #Crosswinds
  • Ports 6667, or 6668
Note that the room is not always occupied with an Op or a Crosswinds staff employee, but usually there is someone there who can either help you or direct you to someone who can. And you can talk to ChuckieCW, but he won't answer you - he's a channel bot, rather like a "door stop".
  • 7.OOPS I uploaded something illegal to my account, and got caught. I've learned my lesson... can I have my account back?

In most cases we will give you the ability to reclaim your account. However, in some cases if you have obviously knowingly uploaded warez or pornography, we will not allow the account released. Please contact us to discuss the matter. We reserve the right to allow or deny release on a case by case basis.
